At Geraldton Senior High School, the Humanities and Social Sciences faculty (HaSS) is the study of human behaviour and interaction in social, cultural, environmental, economic, and political contexts. We focus on the understanding of how the world works and thus, play a crucial role in contemporary education. In HaSS, learning has an historical and contemporary focus, from personal to global contexts, and considers opportunities and challenges for the future. By studying HaSS, students will develop the ability to question; think critically; make decisions based on evidence; devise proposals for actions; and communicate effectively in multi-cultural contexts. We are committed to being culturally responsive and improving educational outcomes to our Aboriginal students and communities.

Years 7-10
At Geraldton Senior High School, Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS) gives our students the knowledge and practical skills they need to understand the world around them and to take part as confident, active citizens now and into the future. We make learning fun and hands-on, with plenty of chances to explore ideas in real-world ways.
The HaSS team is proud of what our students and staff have achieved together – from success in state and national competitions to local and interstate camps and excursions. We also work closely with outside organisations to bring in new opportunities that make learning exciting and meaningful. Through the WA Curriculum, HaSS helps set up all of our young people to be responsible citizens who can think critically, communicate well, and make informed choices. The skills and knowledge they gain are practical and useful, giving them an understanding of history, geography, economics and civics that they can carry into their future work, study, and community life. As well as knowledge about changing work forces, taxation, law and order, our land and its uses and the legacy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture as well as colonisation.
