Technologies – Design & Technology

Technologies offers students the opportunity to undertake practical work with nationally recognised qualifications as well as participate in highly valued community projects and excursions. Geraldton Senior High School has a diverse facility, staffed by skilled teachers who offer the widest range of subjects in the Midwest. Subjects offered include Automotive Engineering, Building and Construction, Jewellery, Materials Design and Technology in both Metalwork and Woodwork.

Students in Years 7-10 use a range of workshops tools and computer software, under professional guidance to design and create products that can be taken home and used. Projects build on the previous years experience and include phone stands, fridge magnets, wooden cooking utensils, resin art chopping boards, stools, occasional tables, candelabras, camping BBQ plates, garden art and mirrors.  From Years 9-12 in jewellery selection of projects are created including; rings,  pendants and earrings, using different materials including sterling silver, Cubic Zirconia stones pearls and resin, culminating entering work for the Young Jewellers award, run by Latitudes Gallery.

Students in Year 11 continue to refine their skills and understanding. Under the guidance of their teachers they independently design and complete projects in a variety of materials. Year 12 students are encouraged to apply more creativity and utilise more advanced techniques to produce work of a higher standard and appeal. Students continue to develop and explore workplace issues including Occupational Health and Safety, employment marketability and finances.

In Automotive Workshop and Building and Construction the focus is on knowledge and hands-on application. Students develop industry-standard skills including basic vehicle servicing, including both lubrication and cooling systems, welding, timber frame construction, bricklaying and paving, surveying and AutoCAD .
